Scholarships for Scholars was established by the superintendent of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools in 1984 to award scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are county residents attending public and accredited private high schools in Anne Arundel County and home-schooled students living in Anne Arundel County. The scholarships are awarded each year to students who have demonstrated exceptional abilities in specific disciplines and who have also contributed to their schools and to the community-at-large. The nonprofit organization is administered by a Board of Trustees comprised of distinguished Maryland citizens. Funds for the scholarships are provided from interest generated by invested escheat funds from estates within Anne Arundel County and private contributions.

Since its inception, Scholarships for Scholars has awarded over $4,000,000 to over 1,000 graduating high school seniors.
